The Joola tragedy is not
only a simple crisis, but it constitutes a great moment in the life
of the whole Senegalese nation. The consequences of this tragedy must
not be underestimated; they should make the nation aware of the necessary
reorientation of people's attitudes and behaviors. All this evokes
many questions for the public authorities, the local communities,
the men, the women and the children concerned. A proper perception
of this crucial moment in the life of all Senegalese people should
serve as a catalyst to serious and significant lessons and their results
for the whole nation.Considering the impact of the event on Senegalese
youth and particularly on students, it is and will continue to be
absolutely necessary to hear their opinions about the causes of the
accident, the consequences and the resonating lessons. These three
dimensions of the aftermath will be treated on this site as a way
of situating the responsibility, from the students' point of view.Pedagogically,
the event has been a pretext to have the students do some research
on their own, to work in groups and discuss. The project has allowed
them to know more about their country, their people, and to act as
responsible citizens for the future of their nation by analyzing situations
and offering suggestions for future actions. This work is from 9th,
10th and 11th grade students, learning English as a Foreign Language.
We are waiting for your contributions, corrections and questions and
we are ready for any supplementary information that will assist us
in our efforts to transform this sad event into something positive.
Thank you for your patience.
